What is a pwoermd?
A pwoermd is a poem that takes the shape of only one word. The title is autological, pwoermd is the combination of "poem" and "word." The term was coined by poet Geoff Huth. Huth and Aram Saroyan are two poets to look at for examples of pwoermds.
So, what differentiates a pwoermd from a keyboard smash? It's the techniques used to make them. Just like any poem, careful consideration is put into their creation. Here are some techniques, of many.
Portmanteau: A portmanteau is a common form of pwoermd and can be effective when used with purpose.Â
Sound: How does it actually sound being read? Can it be read?
Appearance: Does the appearance of the word spark feelings of wonder, fear, or confusion?
Augmentation: What effects have been added to the word? What color, font, or typographical emphasis could be added to better get across the meaning of your pwoermd?
Wordshape: if you were to strikethrough the word eulogy, you would find that the letters l, g, and y affect the shape of the word itself. The shape starts neutral, goes up near the middle, and finishes pushing down.
Autologia: The word has been made to in some way describe or reflect on itself
